Learn Guitar Through Real Songs
Mark Mannering Barton - Pick to Play Guitar
This is what it’s really about for me.
Being able to pick up a guitar and play something you enjoy.
Not endless exercises just real songs that you actually want to play.
From Playing Live to Teaching
I’ve spent years playing in pubs and hosting open mic nights.
That experience shapes how I think about guitar — not as something theoretical, but as something you do, something you enjoy, something you share.
But in lessons, the focus isn’t performance.
It’s helping you get to a point where you can sit down and just play.
Why This Approach Works
For most adult beginners, motivation comes from enjoyment.
If you’re playing songs you recognise, you’re far more likely to keep going, build confidence, and improve naturally over time.
It becomes something you look forward to.
In many ways, it’s a form of therapy in itself.
A Practical, Enjoyable Way to Learn
My approach is simple:
• Focus on real songs from the start
• Build confidence step by step
• Keep things relaxed and practical
• Introduce theory only when it helps
No unnecessary complexity. Just steady, enjoyable progress.
